BROKEN LANTERN
An art collective created by and for artists.
Started as a dream to inspire more collaboration within the art community, the Broken Lantern has blossomed into a respected art collaboration experience by many notable artists. They host artists-in-residence, and between their own gatherings and collaborations at festivals, they have worked with over 100 artists. The main focus is collaboration and learning from each other while creating cohesive pieces of art.
Broken Lantern is an artist collective coordinated by Maurice Laflamme (aka Artfool), and Julie Laflamme, based from their home/art studio in 29 Palms (Joshua Tree), CA. It is geared toward collaboration and inclusivity of artists at any skill level.
Broken Lantern has a residency with Camp Questionmark at Burning Man. Most recently they were invited to create a collaboration at Same Same But Different Festival (SSBD). They are also in their third year of participating in the Hwy 62 Studio Art Tours.
Maurice has been an artist since childhood, and started painting in the San Francisco dubstep scene in 2011, right about the time he met Julie, who did photography in the same scene. They met while dancing. They have always inspired each other to follow the artists path and are both highly inspired by bass music. From the Bay Area to Mendocino to two years of full time living on the road, they enjoy the freedom and space of Joshua Tree to live and host artists year-round.
The Broken Lantern has been inspiring collaboration in the art scene since 2020.
